Hi I live in colorado and my fathers side of the family is maxican so i have enjoyed many bizare foods. In your top ten poll you implied that menudo was disgusting, I beleive this comment to be entirely false. Menudo also contains hominy as well as entrials in many family recepies and is in the canned soup. Right now I am eating(and enjoying) menudo with lemon and cilantro that was cooked by a family freind.

Have you ever eaten dog meat or any other meats from South Korea? If you haven't do you have any plans to do so? I would like to see that on tv. As a Korean veteran I know I have eaten things in korea that I would not get to eat in the USA.

My husband and I watch your show all the time. And, each and everytime, my stomach rolls with intestinal distress. I'm sure some of these funky dishes (i.e. stinky tofu)play havoc on your digestive system. How do you handle it without spending 1/2 of your life in the bathroom?

Andrew,
Love your show, but really love the watch you're wearing. What kind is it?
Thanks!

Andrew, I love your watch can you tell me what kind it is. I love the show and watch them all when I can and DVR the ones I cant. You have a super set of gonades to eat some of the stuff you do. I have to admit you will at least try it. If its to weird(code word)you will not go back for seconds. You are gratious about it, I have to admit. Love the show.

Andrew,
Stinky tofu is one of my favorites. Although I have never had it like you did with the 1000 year old egg, I have had regular tofu with it but doing it with stinky tofu, that is gutsy. I love it deep fried and with beers, or using it in hotpots. By the way hotpots are very Chinese with Japanese and Korean variations.

My 10 yr old daughter and I LOVE bizarre foods, we are both very adventurous eaters, and enjoy your commentary on the foods you try. She tells that you are more "kid friendly" than anyone else on food network.
Hey, kids love ya, you gotta be good people!!!

In response to the Korean Veteran -
There are just a handful of places who actually serve dog in Korea, as most of the population have become avid pet lovers over the last 20 years. You'd have more luck in the Philippines pal!
With regards to the Taiwan show -
Andrew runs across several Korean offerings at the large Financial Center in Taipei. While at the grocery store he samples some Kim Chi and refers to it as "spoiled." That is a pretty bold statement as basic "cabbage" kim chi is just pickled or fermented just like a saur kraut. The obvious difference is in the ingredients we use to ferment, ie chili peppers/powder, salted shrimp, ginger, garlic, oysters, etc. He mentioned as he was tasting the kim chi that it has a 'fizzy and slight spoiled taste, but in a good way.' Andrew - If you're tasting Kim Chi that has any fizz in it, it's a bit old bud! When the kim chi gets too sour that's when we use it for stews.
Next time you want to try some Kim Chi, you should probably head to Korea instead of Taiwan. That would be like going to eat Chili con Carne in Cambodia.

My 3 year old cannot get enough of your show. He constantly asks for 'zarre' foods. I'm not sure what that means about his future and adult eating but I can't wait to find out.

Andrew,
I normally do not watch shows such as yours, however, after watching one episode, I am hooked. I love the different dishes that you try. My wife on the other hand, gets sick after watching you eat some of the dishes. Do you ever get sick?
Please continue the show.

LOVE YOUR SHOW AND ADMIRE YOUR COURAGE! RECENTLY SAW YOUR THAILAND SHOW(?) THERE WAS SMALL PIECE ON AN ALGAE WATER FARM IN THE MTNS PRODUCING AN ANTIOXIDANT/MULTIVITAMIN. I BELEIVE THE NAME WAS SOILANT?? PLEASE VERIFY THIS AND WHERE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO FIND IT. LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR RESPONSE AND TO THIS FALL'S SEASON. KEEP TRYING NEW THINGS!

I am sure you have heard that you are great and that your show is great perhaps a couple of hunded times a day. The only thing I want to say, Andrew, is that you inspire those of us who are natural born adventurers. You know, even as a youngster, when I would visit a new place I would try foods that I would not usually have at home. That became my unwritten rule. Your ability to convey the tastes that you confront throughout the world is excellent. Thanks for your work.

Hey Andrew,
Really enjoy the show. I just watched the episode in which you and the gentleman went nutria hunting in Louisiana. We also have an excess of nutria where I live in Oregon, however really haven’t had a huge desire to eat one due to the resemblance of a rat. Do you have the recipe that your friend used on your show? Thanks a lot, and keep on chowing!

The country: ICELAND
Their national pride: Þorramatur (Thorramatur) is absolutely _drop-dead disgusting_. Rotted shark meat that smells like Windex (Hákarl), charred lamb heads (Svið), pickled ram testicle cakes (Hrútspungur) and black pudding sewn up in a lamb's stomach (Slátur)....BARFOLA!!! Need I say more? Unbelievable yet absolutely true. .....Ohh yesss, and there are many more culinary "delights" that they actually enjoy.
Mr. Zimmern, "food" just does not get any more gross than this!!!
I'm a fan & am absolutely thrilled with your show!
Don't forget to pass up a shot of Brennivín. It's a gross fermented potato drink better known as svarti dauði or "black death".
Happy eats....pinching your nose *might* help. ;)

My dad absolutely loves your show. He watches it all the time and in fact, he could be Andrew Zimmern's. The two of them look identical and he shares your same philosophy of trying anything once. He's gone to China and eaten everything from clotted blood to rat. Would you consider doing an episode with common everyday people eating what Mr. Zimmern eats alongside him? I think it would be a fun show and my dad would be perfect for it and it would bring a new perspective to the show.
Posted by: Nicole | August 6, 2007 10:10 PM
You have my sympathy on durian fruit... I've tried several times and just can't enjoy it. My child loves it -- she's 4 now but liked it at 18 months too -- she tells me peas are "aweful." Now that's bizarre child, preferring bizarre food!
Posted by: Jam | August 6, 2007 11:11 PM
I have to say I really dislike this show. Your condescending remarks towards most of the foods and general snobbish attitude are really a turn off to a "bizarre food" show. Also please for the love of god, chew with your mouth closed. The way you eat is more repulsive than the food on the show.
Posted by: emily | August 6, 2007 11:30 PM
Hi, Andrew. You are great and have a lot of fans in Puerto Rico. Come and enjoy a Bizarre Puertorrican experience !
Posted by: Rafael Mendez | August 7, 2007 7:55 AM
First - I agree with Jam. Chew with your mouth closed -- could hear nothing but nastiness as you chomped on those buggy appetizers during your NY show last night. Second - I think the premise of your show is wrong -- at least Mr. Bourdain actually believes in what he does (or makes it look like he does). The feel of your show is that you are there because it makes for good TV (i.e. "see the freak show who eats BUGS") instead of believing that one truly should broaden their palate by eating adventerously. The comments on your message board alone should be indicative that maybe you belong to a much younger audience.

Hi, Mr. Zimmern.
I'm interested in hosting a party where we can offer some of your Bizzarre Foods. Will your site give us an essential picnic menu? I live in Rochester, NY, a moderate temperature zone, and many items might not be available. I would love to order some food--online--but there might be some FDA regulations related to purchases I and your audiences are unaware of. Can you share them?
Ultimately, I'd like to teach my friends how brave they ought to be and have some fun "eats" as well, and an email or blog to me might help.
If, perhaps, you haven't already, please make a show about what we can do in our own back yards. I wouldn't even mind video-taping my future event and sharing it with your show. Also, a show on how to get some of those interesting meals into our ovens would be great. There are a great many people who can't afford to travel to the places we watch you visit, and learning how to get those tastes back to our own places would be awesome.
Sincerely,
Christopher Otero-Piersante,

My husband and I do volunteer work in Vietnam. He is a Vietnam Veteran and he would like to know: We saw you eat duran fruit and wondered if you tried the duran ice cream. Yuck! I don't like it can't get it past my nose. He! He! Also we like the fish sauce witch is pronounced Nuc Mum..We both have been to Vietnam many times and work in hospitals, orphanages, and many other places. We dress as a clown and chicken and show love and compassion. We also adopted a daughter from Bien Hoa. Hope to hear from you. Sincerley, Susan. P.S. We watch your show all the time.

Hi, Andrew.
Congratulations you got a great show.
But, what are you waiting to come to PERU. The best latin american food you ever gonna try.
Did you know that Cebiche's origin is Perú and that we have a World Guiness record for dishes variety.
Maybe you won't find to many worms or insects (I know you love them) at least not in Lima, but you'll never forget the great peruvian taste.
You won't regret it.

Hey Andrew--love the adventures! Can't say I would try some of that stuff (I think you've put me off even trying Durian--I mean if you can't take it--what chance have I got?), but I enjoy living vicariously through your travels! Perhaps we can all take a hint from Profesore Chris Otero-Piersante, above, and sample some of the bizarre cooking our friends and neighbors conjure up in our own backyards, potlucks, etc--My husband reminds me of a fresh-caught catfish stew, that after hours of careful ministrations per an actual recipe, was served with great ceremony to friends...well, even the dog wouldn't eat it, and he was partial to road-kill! To say nothing of the strange concoctions I've been served as a dinner guest all over the country! The adventures are out there--go out there and find them! Go to your local ethnic market and buy something you've never seen before and EAT IT! Have a party and all your friends can bring obscure food items to sample and shock! If it looks good and the company is congenial--and a glass or two of beverage is beckoning--EAT IT! Andrew, keep up the good work!

KUMUSTA ANDREW!
IS ORANGE YOUR FAVORITE COLOR????
That has been bugging me and my husband for a while now. We couldn't help noticing that you always wear something ORANGE in practically every episode we've watched.
Congratulations on your show, by the way. It is both unique and informative. Thanks also for doing an episode on the Philippines. My husband and I are both from there. If you plan to go back to the country, I hope you will visit the Visayas region. Visiting Manila is only the tip of the iceberg.
On another note, I can't help but agree with your comment on not finding a trace of Spanish footprint in the country despite the fact that we were under Spanish rule for 333 years (to be exact - not 500). To me, it's a sad thing because it feels like Filipinos are shunning from our culture and trying to adapt to Western ways. Maybe getting rid of the Spanish influece is the people's way of mending itself from colonization which dates hundreds of years back. But ask Filipinos in the United States if they are pure Filipinos and they'll tell you they're not. They'll tell you they are part Spanish or Portuguese. Go figure.

Hi Andrew,
I absolutely love your show and am very jealous of your sturdy stomach! You show off all the interesting cuisines around the world in a very educational and entertaining way. And I think its so important for people to realize the breadth of food that is out there. Here are my questions:
(1) Do you have a favorite kind of food from a certain country that you can not get enough of?
(2) Are there any bizarre fruits you've tried or want to try?
Thank you for reading. Looking forward to your next show!

I just watched the gulf coast show again. I grew up there and my dad did alot of deep sea fishing from Pensacola. I always liked the mullet roe but I never had the gizzard. How does it compare to chicken gizzards?
Also your show is responsible for me gaining about 10 .lbs from eating at night after I watch the show.

Andrew...
While searching web sites for spices from India, I came across a very unusual recipe - for goat hooves!
I thought you might like to know about this...
Ingredients:
• Goat hooves 6-8 washed & chopped
• 2 sliced onions, large
• 2 tbsp ginger paste
• 2 tbsp garlic paste
• 200g yogurt, plain
• Alamin paya curry masala
Preparation Method
1. In a pressure cooker take 8 glasses of water, and put on boil. When water starts boiling, add the hooves, half of sliced onions, ginger, garlic and Alamin Paya Curry Masala. Cook on low heat until the hooves are tender (8-10 whistles). Remove from heat.
2. Heat the ghee in another pan and add the remaining sliced onions. Fry till golden. Add the yogurt and fry for few more minutes, then stir this mix into the cooked hooves.
3. Cover and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
Serving Suggestions:
Garnish with chopped green coriander, green chilies. Serve hot with naans or plain boiled rice.
Tips For Best Results:
Boil the hooves in hot water for 15 minutes and throw the water away before you start cooking. Serves 6-8 persons.
Mmmmmm...

Andrew,
I teach geography to sixth grade students in Oregon. I would love to show them some episodes prior to our "bizarre foods" festival wherein we consume some mild cuisine by your standards, yet entirely bold for the students. However, I am unable to find them for sale on the website. Any chance they will be available soon?
Thanks,

Dear Andrew,
I know there a lot of perks that come with the type of job you have and eating the type of weird stuff you do, like the world travel, and the opportunity to be introduced to the many different cultures of the world, but how is it that you are able to eat some of the most disgusting things that are even hard to look at? Do you ever vomit and the camera is still rolling? Or do you get sick after taping has ended, if so, with which food?

Hi Andrew,
First of all, my wife and I love your show!
I'm originally from the Netherlands, but now living in the US. I recently saw your UK episode and was thinking that we certainly have some bizarre foods that you might enjoy in Holland. Raw herring comes to mind, as does smoked eel. And Filet Americain (raw ground meat) on a cracker sounds good too. And of course the more common staples, kroketten, frikadellen, etc.
Of course, this is just a suggestion, but I would love to see a show about the weird foods in my old home-country!

Andrew, love the show as I tend to lean toward the adventurous side myself. I just moved to the Philippines and I'm constantly challenging my new wife to find me something bizzare and different to eat.
I just want to know if you have rules about when to buy or not buy from street vendors and small shoppes. That seems to be the only place where you find some of the more bizzare foods; yet all the health pros say to stay away. How do you handle it?
Also, I'd like to know a list of foods (other than Durian) that have defeated you.
Keep up the great work, love the show!!!

Those are only an example; we have an infinity of bizarre food.
So, I invite you to visit my country. If you need help and you are interested, call me or send me an e-mail. It will be a pleasure for me shows you our country and typical bizarre food.

Just want to recommend my country, Indonesia. I bet you'll never get bored by the Indonesian 17,000 islands' traditional dishes!!! you'll be amazed by the beauty and the cultures of more than 250 tribes. And also, there are a lot of menus that are unique to Indonesia and do not resemble any kind of food anywhere in the world. I would really love to see you in Indonesia. (you can ask Tony, bout Indonesia, and how he loves it!)

Andrew,
Your show is definatly my favorite show. Especially when you went to Morocco. I am 16 and because of you I now make my mother buy something new from the supermarket everytime she goes. For our familie's Christmas, my Mom bought me frog legs to cook for our family and I tried to deep fry them but I got to impatiant and through them in before the oil was hot enough and they were as slimy when I poled them out as they were when I put them in. Anyway, I was wondering when or if you are going to have a new season. I think more poeple would watch the show if you had a co-host. I would suggest using myself for that position. I live a boring life up in Traverse City Michigan. I forgot if it was a Wahoo or a Kingfish that you ate raw, but when our family went on a trip to Naples Florida, I caught a yellow jack and cut a junk out of it right on the beach. It would be my dream to be on your show and it probably won't happen, but I need a new season. Thanks!!!

Hey Andrew,
I looove loooove looove your show. But when are you going to do a new season?? I've been waiting for one forever!
Posted by: Koko | January 16, 2008 11:56 AM
Hey Andrew, I heard you on a radio show in Minnesota saying you'd be doing a show on Bizarre Foods there soon. So why isn't it in the episode list for the new season?

Excellent show! I love your style. 100 percent better than Anthony Bourdain!

Hi Andrew!
We are huge fans of yours down here at University of Central Florida! Some buddies and I even have a make-shift fan club going for you- we all get together and watch the show and attempt to cook dinner.
We have an incredible amount of respect for your stomach! How do you not get food poisoning?
If you are ever in Orlando, we would love to take you out for some alligator bites and a few beers.
Keep on doing what you are doing. And remember, UCF Loves Bizzare Foods!

I had the most wonderful time watching your trip to Ecuador and I can't remember the last time I LAUGHED SO HARD by myself watching a show when you were getting "cleansed" by the medicine doctor. You are REALLY brave! Great show!

Hi Andrew, please come to Indonesia. You will find lots of bizzare food here, I can guarantee you. You don't like durian? you must try our durian ice cream. I don't like durian myself, but when you make ice cream from it, it's so tasty. Hope to see you in Indonesia.

Dear Andrew
I love your show, and think you have a WONDERFUL personality. Could you please ask your audio crew to not zone in on your chewing noises? I'm not sure why they tend to do this to you. Seriously... you need to have your TMJ looked at. I can hear your jaw clicking when you chew. I'm not trying to be mean, I have TMJ also.

Dear Andrew ,
We really love your show and since we are great fans of Asian food we always try strange food they offer just to get moren and more famliar with their Culture .
We have 1 question though :
We really really love your black/red watch and my wife is desperate to buy it for my 40th birthday.
Can you please inform us about the brand/model ??

Hi Andrew!
I absolutely love your show!! I was upset thinking that you weren't going to be back this season, but when I saw the previews for your show, I jumped because it made me soo happy!!
My husband and I love to try new foods but we have our limits, one of mine is: Korean Food, I just can't do it, it looks pretty bizarre for me and my husband's are the inners of any animal, lol
I am from Iquitos, Peru. I don't remember if you have been to Peru before, but Iquitos should be in your list of places with bizarre foods, people there eat Suri (yes, like Tom Cruise's daughter) and it is a larve that grows in the Aguaje tree. People say it tastes like butter, they also eat turtle eggs with cooked green plantains and many other foods considered "bizarre"
Anyways, I just wanted to write something to you and let you know that I am very glad your show is back. I can't wait to see the new episodes.
Remeber, if it looks good...EAT IT!!!
Posted by: Cecilia | February 16, 2008 3:29 PM
Andrew,
Do you know of anyone from another country who has come to the U.S. and reported on any "bizarre" food that we consume?

Hi Andrew,
I am a filipina and was intrigued with your trip to the Philippines, food looked good, but I must admit I have NOT etten most of it, since I have lived 90% of my life in the United States. Wow what I wouldn't give to travel once with you to try lots of the exotic, unusaula foods you eat! Pls take me with you on one trip. Please......
Thank you - Jackie

Dear Andrew, I am addicted to your show. Your friend Anthony Bourdain's show is ok, I guess, but he is just not as descriptive as you are! He ate a freaking horseshoe crab and all he said was it was good. Boo! You are so eloquent, I can almost taste foods I'd never try! Thank you!

Andrew,
My boyfriend and I are going to New Orleans this weekend. I remember seeing your Gulf Coast special and you ate at some pretty unique places. Where was your favorite place to eat there? We're going to pay it a visit. Thanks!

I am a bit surprised that your did not have positive reaction at stinky tofu. I have always liked it since preschool and I like it stinkier the better. Yes, you heard me. The stinkier the better.
Your reaction to stinky tofu brings me to think: You said that you have not being intimidated by food as much as those two dishes. Do you have any similar experience? And also, are those experiences on Bizarre Food?

Andrew,
Love your show! What does your crew eat?
Posted by: Gene | February 29, 2008 8:40 PM
Hey Andrew,
Just wanted to say that your show is very interesting and really informative. After all that traveling, aren't you running out to bizarre foods to eat? From live frogs in Japan to addidas(chicken feet) in the Phlippines, what else do you have in store for us? Oh yeah can i come in one of your trips?
Thanks a bunch.

Just curious, since you have such an eclectic taste, what are some of the foods that you do not like?
Posted by: Keiko | March 3, 2008 4:26 PM
Its not that he chews with his mouth open. He smacks. But that he doesn't even chew. He takes a bite and swollows- come on man- try to enjoy the food you are sharing with the view.

Hey Andrew,
I was wondering (and perhaps you've been asked this many times--if so, I'm sorry), with all the bizarre foods you eat, how many times have you been "food poisoned?" In particular, have you ever been poisoned after eating something that appeared on your show? Thanks.

I finally got to meet you at The South beach food and wine festival. I have seen every episode and look forward to this new season. Have you ever had any digestive episodes from any of the strange things you eat? What was your favorite bizzare food?

Hi Andrew.
My fiance and i watch your show religiously and love it. We are planning a honeymoon in Thailand and want to sample the bizzare foods that region has. Are you able to give tips on what is the best place to eat whilst we are over there.

-I absoloutely love your show!! I was intimidated to check it out but it really is more than a full-out gross fest.
-I never really noticed the "loud chewing" that people complain about. If you ask me, they accentuate that in purpose.
-Here's just some general questions that I'm curious about:
Do you end up paying for food you pay at the restaurants?
How many people travel with you on a particular trip? (cameramen, producer, etc...)
How do you scout the locations you will be travelling to?

Andrew: What kind of watch are you wearing during the shows. It has a red face. Thanks.

My husband and I love your show. We were watching the Minnesota episode and wondered if we could get the recipe for the sucker head soup. We catch suckers around here and would like to try it sometime. Thanks for your help.

This made sound inappropriate but do you ever get sick from the foods that you eat? If so how often? How can your stomach handle some of those foods? Seriously how much time do you spend in the bathroom?? Post the answer on this blog, I usually never read my emails. You can word my question differently if you want to make it more PG. Thank you and I really am curious about this, me and my fiance fight about it all the time when we watch your show.

On the recent Bolivia show, the lady guide explaining the peanut or juice/berry drinks used the term "booger" juice. But "goober" is a term for peanut, so she might have misspoke on this instance. She probably should have said "goober" juice.

Andrew,
Awesome show! My wife and I have been hooked ever since we saw our first episode a few months ago.
Listen, you need to do me a HUGE favor and shoot an episode of bizarre foods in INDIA! My wife is from there, and we have a bet going that if anyone could find "odd" foods there, you could! So hopefully INDIA will be in an upcoming season!

Hi Andrew, as a 14 year old kid, i'm really curious as to what the food tastes like that you eat. Is there anything to make here in the U.S. that may not be too difficult but still "bizarre"?

There are a few places I would love for you to go. The main is Taveuni, Fiji....They have a soup called Kokoda that is WONDERFUL. I had it at "Maravu Plantation Resort" Incredible place....Not quite the worst thing you could eat but it sure is great. Other places would be Interesting such as the Cook Islands, Tonga, New Guinea, Bhutan, and Africa.
